It's just a development site for site_foundation, a "post-your-story-here" type application written in PHP not unlike slash or Thatware. Its main difference lies in its backend, user levels to determine who sees what and a (IMHO) cleaner administartive interface. Additionally site_foundation tries to encourage users to post longer articles, reducing the signal/noise ratio that ultimately repells me from sites like Slashdot.Uses
site_foundation is developed mainly to serve my personal needs, netwarriors.org, a site (now) dedicated to the engineers and geeks living or intending to move to the Silicon Valley, something I did 9 months ago desperately seeking out information on clubs, bars, hiking trails and such...Under the hood...Generally, s_f could be used to serve any pourpouse you like, a bit tweaking might be involved but that's the way I planned it, nothing is set in stone.
site_foundations heart is written in PHP using mySQL as its database and Apache to run on (though I might migrate to PostgreSQL soon).
