What is MyAdServer?
====================================

MyAdServer is a web banner rotation and administration application written in PHP3.0. It employs the use of the MySQL server for storing client information, as well as an array of statistics regarding both client and adserver load.

MyAdServer includes the following highlights:

	* Administrator can place "weights" on banner views, speeding up and slowing rate of display.
	* Option to track or forget about daily unique IP address statistics.
	* Clients can be emailed formatted statistic reports at the push of a button.

The following information is tracked by MyAdServer:

	* Total/daily banner displays and clickthroughs.
	* Total/daily unique IP address tracking.
	* Individual logins/passwords allow client to check statistics in real-time.
	* Banners can be displayed multiple times on a single page, with correct statistical tracking.

Installation Procedure
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Step 1: Uncompress the mas distribution to the directory in which you would like the adserver to reside.

Step 2: Edit the init.php3 file.
Each variable is accompanied with an explanation of its purpose. This should be a fairly simple process.

Step 3: Load the URL http://YOUR_URL_TO_MAS_DIRECTORY/tablecreater.php3 into your web browser.

This is a form that will allow you to quickly create the tables necessary for MyAdServer. The tables will be created into the database designated within the $masdbName variable, located within the init.php3 file.
After the script has been run, you will be notified of whether the table creation process was successful or not. Assuming you have correctly designated the MySQL Server connection variables and the name of an EXISTING database, then the script should work correctly.

Step 4: Assuming that Step 3 went okay, MyAdServer should be ready to function. Load the following URL into the browser: http://YOUR_URL_TO_MAS_DIRECTORY/adminenter.php3

This will prompt you for a username and password. Insert the username and password that you designated within the init.php3 file.

Since this is the first time you are using MyAdServer, the interface will state that there are currently no clients. It will prompt you to add a client.

Step 5: Add a client to MyAdServer. Please refer to clientaddition.txt for details about the options you have when adding a client.

Step 6: Once you have added a new client to MyAdServer, load the URL http://YOUR_URL_TO_MAS_DIRECTORY/example.php3 into your browser. This is an example page that will pull the banner you just added from the server, and display it on the page.

Step 7: Assuming everything has been successful to this point, it is time to insert the PHP code into your website so that the banners can be rotated. There are two cases, so please read this carefully!

Note: If you currently have an initialization script, you MUST provide an INCLUDE statement within the script. This INCLUDE statement MUST include the full path leading to the MyAdServer initialization file.

For example:
INCLUDE "/home/www/314/myadserver/init.php3";

Case 1:
You have no preference about which banner is displayed on a specific page.

You can simply add the code:
<?
@display(width,height);
?>

Where width is the specific width restriction of the banner, and height is the specific height restriction of the banner. This allows you to display multiple sized banners on the same web page.

Case 2:
You only want specific banners to be displayed on a web page.

You can simply add the code:
<?
@display(width,height,page_id);
?>

WHERE width and height are as described in Case 1, and page_id is the category of banners that are allowed to be displayed on this page.

For example, if you have 3 banners within the database:
banner 1 category: sports
banner 2 category: finance
banner 3 category:

And you include the following into a web page:

<?
@display(468,60,sports);
?>

Then only banners 1 & 3 can be shown on the web page. This is because banner 3 does not have a restriction, and because banner 1 matches the page_id.
