Templates

WebSight Directory System uses TemplatePower (http://templatepower.codocad.com) as template engine. Both WDS and TemplatePower are distributed under the GPL.

What are templates?

A template engine is used to seperate the html layout from the php code files. it uses "placeholders" to represent the information that php creates dynamically. this way, a website or script can easily have a new layout without digging into the programming code.

In WDS, all templates are located in the templates/ directory. the template files have the same or nearly the same name as the php file it is the template for. two files, header.tpl and footer.tpl, are used all over the site. the front-end of WDS uses different header and footer files than the administration area. all template files for the administration area can be found in templates/administration/

How to customize your WDS?

You can easily customize the layout of your WDS by editting the template-files in the templates/ directory. There are a few things you need to pay attention to though, before changes the templates:

a) make sure that "placeholders" (the information between { and } in the template files) stay within a block (which starts with <!-- START BLOCK : name --> and ends with <!-- END BLOCK : name -->) if it is within a block, or stays outside a block when it is outside a block.
b) make sure you don't change names of placeholders or blocks.

Besides these things, feel free to change the whole layout by editting the templates. please keep in mind that you can not change the creditting information in the footer (templates/footer.tpl).

The default template...

The default template has been designed by Marjolein van Elteren (http://www.tearsong.com). You are free to use this template for your installation of WDS.
